Welcome to Chapel Farmhouse

Bed and Breakfast Accommodation in Whaw, Arkengarthdale, Richmond, North Yorkshire

Lying at the northern end of the Yorkshire Dales National Park, and situated in the secluded hamlet of Whaw, Arkengarthdale, Chapel Farmhouse makes an excellent base for walking, biking and touring the Dales or just simply enjoying a quiet holiday break. Chapel Farmhouse incorporates the old village schoolroom and has been renovated to restore many of its traditional features. It provides an opportunity to stay in a Yorkshire Dale untouched by modern commercialism. It is rich in flora and fauna and wild expanses of open moors.

Whaw is the Nordic name for "a place where sheep are gathered for milking". It owes its main development to 18th century local lead mining. Chapel Farmhouse, set hard against Whaw Scar, overlooks the River Arkle and low dale pastures which sweep dramatically to the high heather moorlands.

From early spring, heralded by the return of the curlew and peewit, through the lambing season and then gently into summer with the swallows and swifts, Chapel Farmhouse is an ideal place to enjoy the English countryside at its best. Once the stunning autumn colours of the moors and woodlands begin to fade, the gathering of sheep announces the onset of winter and as days draw to an end you are welcome to relax by the open fires in the lounge or dining room. Such is Whaw, fascinating and a joy for any season.
